About Us

Partners for Indigenous Knowledge Philippines (PIKP) is a learning network of organizations, Indigenous knowledge holders, researchers, writers, artists, advocates and communities in the Philippines working to promote and strengthen Indigenous knowledge.

PIKP and its partners aim to contribute to greater recognition of Indigenous wisdom, the rights of Indigenous peoples to lands, territories and resources, and Indigenous peoples’ contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Our Core Values

  • Indigenous wisdom embodies valuable knowledge and regenerative practices on biodiversity conservation, health and wellbeing.
  • Indigenous peoples are interdependent with healthy ecosystems and have protected their lands and resources for generations. Their territories support a wealth of biological and cultural diversity.
  • Indigenous peoples foster a sense of community by helping each other in times of need and in the exercise of their rights. The vital role of indigenous women, men, elders, youth and children in the community is recognized.
  • Spiritual relationships between humans, nature and ancestors have evolved through time, practices and rituals honoring sacred places and lived environments.
  • Indigenous peoples have the right to self-determination, to decide their own futures and paths towards economic, social, cultural development.
  • Sustainability means that land and resources are managed well for present and future generations and are guided by indigenous values of care for nature and people.
